When you have suffered an injury, all you can think about is getting back on your bike. Once you have gotten so used to cycling on a regular basis, it’s hard taking time off to recover. Exercising releases positive endorphins and when you have to stop exercising, you can be left feeling down. However, it doesn’t have to be like that.
After taking time out of training, you have the opportunity to come back stronger and more determined than ever.
Rest Up!
During the healing process, your body uses a lot of energy, so, it’s important to allow yourself time to rest. If you don’t, you could be doing your body more harm which will only prolong the healing process.
Make a Plan
Since you have some spare time as you are out of training for a while, you can use this time to make a plan. Think about what your weaknesses are and how you’re going to work on them when you get back on your bike. It’s important to try and maintain some level of exercise while you’re recovering. This doesn’t have to be hardcore exercise, just something as simple as taking a walk.
Get Back on Your Bike
Once you are fully healed, it’s time to get back on your bike. However, don’t over-do it. Start small and slowly build yourself back up. Remember that your body will have gotten used to less exercise and you need to get back into the routine of it. Only you will know what you feel capable of so train at your own pace.
It’s normal to feel apprehensive about training again when you have only just recovered. But, the more you delay the process the harder it will be to get back into training. If you need any advice about how to get back on track after a break from training, click here.
