Measurement are provided as a general guide
(A) If the measurement is exceeded after removing handlebar stem / TT bars, try flipping the bike over or remove rear mech (derailleur).
(B) If the measurement is exceeded, lower seat, remove seat post or remove saddle. Anyone 6 foot 4”(1.93m) or over may have to remove the chain set or chain rings.
(C) 85cm is the maximum size for a bike with seat left in position, so riders 5 foot 10” (1.78m) or less can leave the saddle in place.
(D) If measurement is exceeded, remove rear mech (derailleur) or forks in worst case scenario.
(E) The maximum width of Road bike/ TT handlebars is 50cm.

The maximum width of Mountain bike handlebars is 80cm.
(F) Standard lightweight road wheels with or without disc brakes fit into the wheel recesses in the lid of the bike box and takes up to 25mm tyres. Tubeless road / MTB tyre / Gravel wheels are laid on top of the intermediate foam.

- Riders over 6 foot 3” (190cm) using large and extra large TT bikes may have to reduce the reach of the TT bars, lower or remove seat post and rear mech. In rare occasions the chain set may need removing, please check the (G) measurement on your bike.
- For all Mountain bike you will need to remove the handlebars and forks.
*Some Touring Bikes may fit (providing that mud guards and luggage racks are removed) and the bike is of standard road bike configuration, with 27 inch wheels. If in doubt please contact us.

There is room for 3 lightweight road wheels inside the Easyfit. So if you are a Triathlete who wants the option to race with either a solid rear disc wheel or a normal rear wheel, we have the bike box for you. A separate solid disc wheel anti-crush pole can be provided on request – see upgrade options on product page. Important *To pack a 3rd wheel you will need to order an additional layer of foam from the accessories page.

Due to its clever geometry, up to 95% of bikes will fit into the BBA Original range of bike Boxes.The BBA Original range are compliant with Disc brakes / Through axels and tubeless tyres.

There is additional space for Track pump, Trainer and wetsuit etc, but equally important is how compact the BBA Original range are, when compared to other bike boxes. Due to clever geometry the this bike box will accommodate the biggest bikes and deep dish wheels. Yet, externally the box is relatively small on the outside when compared to other bike boxes and bike bags. So when it comes to transporting your Bike Box to and from the airport, you do not have to hire a large expensive car. In fact you can fit 2 Bike Box Alan Original boxes, 2 people and 2 medium sized soft bags into a budget priced VW Polo hatchback, Ford Fiesta, Fiat Punto and similar. Fast to Pack, once you have done it a few times, it should only take 10 to 15 minutes.
Dual Purpose Road bike or MTB: We recommend that if you mainly travel with your road bike and the occasional trip with a mountain bike, the BBA Original range is the perfect choice.
However, if you travel a lot with your MTB and you have a 29er or 27.5 (650B) Mountain Bike, the bigger Triathlon Aero Easyfit bike box will be an easier and a more comfortable fit for these types of MTB. But please bare in mind that the Easyfit is more expensive and bulkier and only one will fit into the average Hatch back car.
Exceptions: Bikes that don’t fit
- Balloon tyre bikes (Fat bikes), Tandems and Touring bikes
- Downhill bikes (See our Triathlon Aero Easyfit Bike box)
- Electric mountain / Road Bikes are not allowed on aeroplanes

Once the bike is in the BBA you can relax in the knowledge that your pride and Joy is protected by the Unique anti crush pole. If you are not too mechanical you could ask your local bike shop to demonstrate the procedure. It might cost a couple of £ / $ but the experience will be worthwhile.
Triathlon Aero Easyfit Bikebox:
(no removal of Handlebars, Just wheels and pedals *)
If you have a Triathlon Bike or the latest generation of Aero Road bikes with or without hydraulic disc brakes then generally all you only need to remove is the wheels and pedals! *
So if the TT handlebar assembly can’t be dismantled or if you simply want the absolute minimum of component removal, this is the bike box for you.
Precious handlebar and seat settings can remain. Even hydration systems can generally stay in place. Packing can be achieved in as little as 5 Minutes!
The Easyfit is also designed for Road bikes, the larger ENDURO Mountain Bikes, Gravel, Cyclocross bikes plus some types of Touring bikes.
TSA Friendly:
Additionally, the trips to the USA should no longer be stressful, as our fixed two part anti- crush pole system, eliminates the risk of TSA security guys, not putting the anti crush pole back when they routinely searched your bike box.

The Triathlon Aero Easyfit is the latest addition to the Bike box Alan Range. As you might expect, the Easyfit inherits the same DNA as its Multi award winning Bike Box Alan cousin, the Premium.
The Triathlon Aero Easyfit, is the first Hard case to accommodate the latest generation of High end Triathlon / TT /aero road bikes, which have the fully integrated cable systems, where removal of the Handle bars is rendered almost impossible. Please see below, some of the new generation of bikes that will fit into the Easyfit. The list is not exhaustive.

Will my road bike fit?
BBA Original bikebox:
All sizes of road bikes fit from 42cm to 65cm (although 65cm frames will need more components removing)
The Bike Box alan as 18 padded Velcro straps allowing bikes to be secured in 2 ways, depending on your bike size. (See the schematic drawing inside the lid of the Bike Box) The padded Velcro straps are generously sized so that any future bikes will fit into the bike box.
It can also accommodate the following
- Deep dish wheels- wheels up to 100 mm section can be used in the Bike Box Alan
- Disc brake wheels
- Solid Disc wheels- the anti crush pole cannot be used
- Thru axles- Quick release skewers required
- Tubeless Tyres- fit upto 25mm and 28mm lightweight racing tyres.

Exceptions: Road bikes that do not fit
- Tandems and Touring bikes
- Bikes with Tubeless Tyres
- Electric Road Bikes are not allowed on aeroplanes
- Over 65cm frames
- 58cm to 65cm bikes with integrated seat post (where the seat pin is non adjustable and part of the bike frame)
- Aero road bikes with no visible cables at the front of the bike. If you cannot remove the handlebars or if you don’t want to remove the handle bars, you need to choose our Triathlon Aero Easyfit bikebox.
Ceramic speed oversized pulley
With the exception of small bikes, the whole rear mech assembly will need removing. This involves the removal of a single allen key bolt, the gear cable can remain attached. Once removed, wrap the rear mech in bubble wrap. It will need securing to the bike frame with zip ties for transportation.
The gears that the pulleys are attached to will also need removing. This is easily accomplished by unscrewing the single allen key bolt that attaches the gears to the frame. The gear cables / electric wire and chain can stay in place. Once removed, wrap the gears in a cloth and secure with a plastic zip tie / velcro strap to the bike to avoid the risk of damage.
Triathlon Aero Easyfit bikebox:
This box can accomadate the following:

- Tubeless Tyres
- Large and extra large bikes

Road bikes can easliy fit into this box. Please see check my bike will fit section for measuremnts you can check on your frames.
It is fair to say that over 95% of bikes fit into the Easyfit bike box with just wheels and pedals removed.
Please note -when you are a very tall rider. You have to expect more component removal, no matter whose bike box you use.
If you are 5 foot 11” (1.8m) tall or less, with a road or Triathlon bike, it’s generally just wheels and pedals off! 5 to 10 minutes packing time.

With perhaps the exception of small Triathlon or Small road bikes, it will mean the whole of the rear mech will need removing, This is easily accomplished, by unscrewing the single allen key bolt , the gear cables/ electric wire can stay in place.

Will my mountain bike fit?
If you are a frequent traveller with your MTB, have a large or extra large frame we recommend our Triathlon Aero Easyfit bikebox. There is much more space inside the Aero Easyfit and wheels will fit in the wheel recesses provided.
BBA Original bikebox:
All standard 26, 27.5 and 29er cross country type mountain bikes fit into the bike box alan*, downhill bikes can also fit. If you are a tall rider you should be prepared to do a little more stripping down, than you would with a road bike, because mountain bikes are generally longer than road bikes. Small mountain bikes generally fit with the forks on. With medium and large bikes the forks will need removing. If you are reasonably practical this will only take you an extra 5 minutes. In addition rear mech, seat, and pedals also have to be removed.
Instructions for removing forks:
There are only 3 allen keys to remove, this allows the handlebar stem with the handlebars attached to be removed. The forks are then free to slide out of the frame. Care should be taken to record the position of the various spacers and lock washers that are under the handle bar stem. Once you have removed the forks the spacers should be put back onto the forks in the same order, placing the top lock down washer and bolt last, which will secure all the parts until re-assembly takes place.
26 inch wheels will fit in the wheel recess in the lid of the box providing you deflate the tyres.
* 27.5 (650B) 29er Mountain bike wheels do not fit into the wheel recesses in the lid, you may be able to fit the front wheel in the recess and the rear wheel can be placed on top of the intermediate foam and are protected by the anti crush pole. Some some cases both wheels may need to be laid on topon the foam layer. Please see our technical information for 29er mountain bikes for packing instructions.
If you have a large full suspension bike it can be advantageous to let the air out of the rear suspension. This reduces the overall length of the bike to facilitate loading of the bike box. Re-inflating the rear suspension is a simple operation. Just make sure you take a shock pump with you on your trip!
Mountain bikes are always a snug fit in all bike boxes and so be prepared to shuffle the bike / wheels around until you can achieve a satisfactory fit. Please make sure disc brake rotors are not touching the bike or its components and that the anti-crush pole is used, to ensure the safety of the bike.
The Bikebox Alan has one the largest internal dimensions of any lightweight bike case. Yet it is surprisingly compact, enabling you to choose the smallest cars to transport your bike or bikes to and from the airport. Some brands of bike cases are big and cumbersome, thus preventing you from choosing the cheaper hire car, especially if you are wanting to transport 2 bike cases.

Most Time Trial TT bikes will fit into you BikeBoxAlan box!
BBA Original bikebox:
However, we would recommend the ideal box to choose is our Triathlon Aero Easyfit bike box especially if you have one of the new generation of TT / Triathlon bikes with fully integrated cables (no cables at the front end of the bike).
The BBA Original is a cheaper and safe choice if you have a TT / Triathlon bike that has conventional TT handlebar and stem, or the extension TT bars that are added to conventional drop handlebars. Generally if you can remove the usual 3 Allen key bolts on the handlebar stem the bike will go in the BBA Original.
All sizes of conventional TT bikes fit, up to 63cm, including bikes with integrated seat posts. (Seat posts that are part of the frame with minimal adjustment up and down).
Riders 5 foot 10” (1.78m) or under do not have to take the seat pin/seat off.
Brake / Gear cables can remain in place, the TT bars usually bridge over the bike frame once in the box. TT extensions and elbow pads may need adjustment to fit in the bike box.
Shimano Di2
If you are 5 foot 10” (1.78m) or less, the seat post and battery can remain connected. If you have to remove the seat pin , undo the seat pin securing bolt. IMPORTANT – take extreme care to retain all the seat post mechanism components. Remove the seat pin, the battery cable will be revealed, simply pull out the cable from the seat post taking care not to let the cable disappear down the seat tube, secure the cable with sticky tape to the frame.
Ceramic Speed oversized pulleys
With the exception of small bikes, the whole rear mech assembly will need removing. This involves the removal of a single Allen key bolt; the gear cable can remain attached. Once removed wrap the rear mech in packaging, it will need securing to the bike frame with zip ties for transportation.
Triathlon Aero Easyfit bikebox:
We would recommend the ideal box to choose is our Triathlon Aero Easyfit bike box especially if you have one of the new generation of TT / triathlon bikes with fully integrated cables (no cables at the front end of the bike). With this style of bike it is almost impossible to remove the handlebars thus making it impossible to put the bike in any other bike box apart from our Easyfit bike box. The benefit being that generally handlebars can stay in place, just pedals and wheels need removing, allowing the bike to be packed in as little as 5 minutes!

Will my cyclo cross/ gravel bike fit?
Most cyclo cross / gravel bikes will fit into your BikeBoxAlan box!
BBA Original bikebox:
These bikes typically have tyres between 28mm to 35mm wide, which will not fit in the wheel recesses in the lid of the bike box. However the wheels can be laid safely on top of the intermediate foam on top of the frame, with the added assurance that the wheels and the bike are being protected by the anti-crush pole. If you wish to add a more protection an extra layer of foam can be purchased from our accessories page.

Gravel and Cyclo cross bikes are always a snug fit in all bike boxes, so on closure of the bike box, be prepared to shuffle the bike and wheels around until you can achieve a satisfactory fit. Tyres should be deflated.
There are a variety of ways to lay the wheels in the bike box. Our preferred way is to first lay the rear wheel on the left hand side of the box, Disc rotor facing towards the bike frame. The front wheel can be placed on the right hand side, disc rotor facing upwards.
Note the strategically placed piece of cardboard protecting the Tyre from the Cassette (cogs).
Shimano Di2 (with seat tube battery)
If you are 5 foot 10” (1.78m) or less, the seat post and battery can remain connected. To remove, undo the seat pin securing bolt. IMPORTANT- Take extreme care to retain all the seat post mechanism components.
Remove the seat pin, the battery cable will be revealed, simply pull out the cable from the seat post taking care not to let the cable disappear down the seat tube, secure the cable with sticky tape to the frame.
Older versions of the Shimano Di2 may have the battery attached to the outside of the frame, frame mounted batteries can remain in place.

Will my 29er mountain bike fit?
Most 29″ wheel mountain bikes will fit into a BikeBox Alan with some dismantling!
If you are a frequent traveller with your MTB, have a large or extra large frame we recommend our Triathlon Aero Easyfit Bikebox. There is much more space and wheels will fit in the wheel recesses provided.
BBA Original bikebox:
29er mountain bikes are packed in the same way as other mountain bikes apart from the wheels. Please see the technical information for mountain bikes.
If you have 29 inch wheels with the latex rubber inside (stans puncture prevention) we suggest you reduce the tyre pressure in the front wheel to approximately 5 to 7 lbs then install into the left hand wheel recess. The rear wheel can then be placed loose in the case on top of the foam covering the frame. We recommend a little extra padding using your cycling kit, spare bubble wrap or you can order an extra layer of foam for an additional charge available on the accessories page.
29er Hard Tail Mountain Bikes
This hard tail 29er bike is for a 6 foot 3″ (1.873m) rider. The bike had a 19″ (480mm) seat tube, a 24″(610mm) top tube, across the corner measurement (from rear gear hanger to head tube (longest part of the frame) it measures 43.5″ (1105mm).
If the geometry and size of your bike is no bigger than this one, and providing you are mechanically competent your bike should go in the Bikebox Alan original.

On this particular 29er bike we removed forks, pedals, seat pin, handle bar stem and rear derailleur. Front tyre deflated then installed in front wheel pod, (ROTOR facing lid of box), skewer from rear wheel used to secure front wheel, which was a bit of a squeeze. To make it easier the tyre could have been removed. Rear wheel lies in box rotor facing upwards, with 10lbs of air left in.
Next secure anti-crush pole into the socket, place extra layer of foam / extra bubble wrap between the 2 wheels. Finally check that when closed the rotors are safe. If in doubt remove rotors.
Fast to Pack, once you have done it a few times, it should only take 10 to 15 minutes.

Bikes with 25 mm, 28mm tyres and larger are not recommended for the this box bikebox. (The tyre side walls are thicker, preventing them going into the wheel recesses in the bkiebox lid).

Triathlon Aero Easyfit bikebox:
Fit comfortably into the wheel indents recesses in the base and lid bike box of the Easyfit bike box. For safety remove 5% of air pressure. This will also avoid you loosing liquid puncture sealant as the tyre seal will remain intact.

If you are 5 foot 10” (1.78m) or less, the seat post and battery can remain connected. To remove, undo the seat pin securing bolt. IMPORTANT, take extreme care to retain all the seat post mechanism components.
Remove the seat pin, the battery cable will be revealed, simply pull out the cable from the seat post taking care not to let the cable disappear down the seat tube, secure the cable with sticky tape to the frame.
Older versions of the Shimano Di2 may have the battery attached to the outside of the frame, frame mounted batteries can remain in place.

Seat and intergrated seat posts
BBA Original bikebox:
Riders 5 foot 10” (1.78m) or under do not have to take the seat pin/seat off.
Please check the measurement below if you have an integrated seat post.
Please take your seat clamp off and measure from top of seat post to bottom of the largest chain ring. If it is 87cm or more you may have to take the large chain ring off/ full crank.
If you have a 61cm or larger frame and have an integrated seat post you may also need to remove the rear mech.
63cm frames or bigger bikes
Please email your bike specification, so that we can ascertain which components may need removing. No matter who`s Bike Box you choose, to transport the 63 cm and XL integrated seat post bikes, one has to expect an element of extra dismantling.
This can result in having to remove the wheels, pedals, handlebars, or handlebar stem, seat, or seat post, Worst case scenario Forks or chain wheels/ Cranks. Even so it shouldn’t take more than 25 minutes.
Triathlon Aero Easyfit bikebox:
If you are 5 foot 11” (180cm) or less, your seat can remain in place.
Above that you may have to remove the seat. Extra large bikes with an I.S.P should check dimensions on the check my bike will fit section.
Will the BikeBoxAlan box fit into my car?
YES! Due to clever geometry the BikeBoxAlan appears small when compared to bags and other bike boxes, yet will comfortably fit into most cars!

Due to clever geometry the Bike box alan appears small, when compared to bike bags and rectangular bike boxes; Yet it can accommodate the biggest ISP (Integrated seat post) Bikes.
As you will see from the photos transporting the bike box in your car should not present too many problems. We also have experience of putting 2 boxes, 2 cabin sized back packs, 2 average sized soft cases and 2 people in a Golf Polo (the second smallest VW):

Will 3 Bike Box Alans and 3 people fit into a Rental Car?
Alan had to solve the problem of 3 bike boxes and 3 bodies in one car, on a recent trip to Mallorca. With so few rental cars offering a roof rack option. The Citreon Berlingo with 5 seats or the equivalent Fiat Doblo would prove to be the perfect partner. It’s cavernous interior easily accommodated the 3 Cyclists, 3 medium sized soft luggage bags and two bike boxes, once we had folded down the twin split rear seat.
Will 3 Bike Box Alans and 3 people fit into a Rental Car?
Alan had to solve the problem of 3 bike boxes and 3 bodies in one car, on a recent trip to Mallorca. With so few rental cars offering a roof rack option. The Citreon Berlingo with 5 seats or the equivalent Fiat Doblo would prove to be the perfect partner. It’s cavernous interior easily accommodated the 3 Cyclists, 3 medium sized soft luggage bags and two bike boxes, once we had folded down the twin split rear seat.
Whilst the Bike Box may look a bit precarious perched on the bumper it actually proved to be very safe; the weight is carried by the rear bumper. While a ratchet strap and an extra piece of rope enabled me to relax while I transported my precious F8 to one end of the island and back again.
However you need to prepare in advance by taking all the Straps, rope etc, with you.
What you will need….
- A piece of cardboard to replicate the registration plate of the car.
- 4 small 100mm x 100mm pieces of cardboard to protect the edges of the car doors where the rope/ straps touch.
- Black felt pen (to write the registration number on the cardboard number plate)
- Roll of sticky tape to secure the cardboard registration plate to the Bike box.
- Several 250mm long plastic zip ties.
- 5 meters of 6mm (1/4″ diameter) nylon rope.
- 1.5 meters x 3 meters of polythene bubble pack (to protect the paintwork on the rear door)
- 4 meter long ratchet strap with hooks (must have webbing no bigger than 25mm wide so that it can pass through the hole in handle of the Bike Box Alan.
Procedure
1. Drop the twin seats and place the 2 BBA inside along with any other soft luggage bags. (Hard luggage cases should be avoided)
2. Pass through the 1/4″ dia nylon rope between the hinges at the top of the tail gate (see the photo)
3. Stick the Bubble pack on the rear car door using the sticky tape, allowing some to eventually over lap the rear bumper (this will protect the car paintwork.
4. Unfasten the ratchet strap from the ratchet buckle, IMPORTANT pass the loose end through the hole at the front of the box (see photo) Then around the back of the car door, (Partly close the door)
5. Fully close the door making sure the vertical Nylon rope is accessible to tie, also see that both ends of the ratchet strap are accessible and horizontal.
6. Finally check straps/ ropes are secure.
7. Stop after 10 minutes to check that all is secure.

- Lay on roof bars, secure with either 6mm (1/4 inch) nylon rope or the old fashioned leather toe straps or strong plastic zip ties (cable tyres)
- Pass through the 2 holes at the top of the box
- Then secure at the bottom of the box by passing the rope through the caster wheel chassis.
The bike box can be secured more permanently, to be similar to a roof box, by bolting into position:
- Lay the box on the flat side, onto the roof bars (You need the bars that go from one side of the car to the other).
- Drill 4 equally spaced 6mm holes through the bike box to coincide with the roof bars (place a thin piece of plywood/ wood below to avoid damaging the car roof)
- Secure with appropriately sized nuts and bolts. (The nut part should be underneath to avoid the screw protruding into the bike box)
- Check the bolts occasionally to ensure tightness.
- Water will be able to enter the bike box so avoid placing items in the bike box that may be damaged by water.

Thru Axles
Bikes with thru axles can be loaded into a BikeBoxAlan box!
BBA Original bikebox:
Bikes with thru axles can be loaded into the Original Bike Box Alan without any problems.
We recommend you use any spare traditional quick release skewers to attach the wheels to the box just the same as you would with standard QR wheels. The thru axles can be removed from the wheels and placed back on to the frame for safe keeping. The wheels are then placed in the wheel recesses in the lid of the box. Next you need place the quick release skewers through the hub of the wheels, this will allow you to attach them to the lid of your bike box. As the wheels sit in the recess of the lid of the box there won’t be any movement.
Some customers may have a spare set of skewers from an old pair of wheels, a simple steel washer with a small hole will help to give extra support. Alternatively you can purchase a spare set including washers from our accessories page.

These wheels are easily secured in the wheel recesses in the base and lid bike box using the cushioned velcro straps provided. The axles can remain in the bike frame for safe keeping.

Will bikes with internal wiring and fixed headsets fit?
Systems vary from one bike to the next but generally the vast majority of bikes will fit

However the new aero bikes (2019 and onwards) may have no visible cables at the front of the bike. If you cannot remove the handle bars or you don’t want to, you need to choose the Traithlon Aero Eaysfit bikebox.

Handle bars can stay in place. please see check my bike will fit to see maxium measurments as some large bikes may need to reduce the reach of the aero bars.

Racing wheels are safely secured in the lid of the Bike case. The anti crush pole cannot be used when transporting the rear disc wheel. However the plastic on our bike cases are double the thickness of our competitors so transporting a disc wheel in our bike boxes, still gives the maximum protection that can be afforded. We recommend a little extra padding out using with your cycling kit, spare bubble wrap or you can order an extra layer of foam for an additional charge available on the accessories page.

Will Disc Brake Wheels fit?
Will Disc Brake wheels fit into my BikeBoxAlan?

Disc wheel brake rotors come in many sizes. The general recommendation by Bike Box Alan and Professional riders is to remove them if they are fixed with screws.
If you can’t remove the disc brake rotors or you simply don’t want to.
The wheels can be can simply fitted in the lid of the box with the rotors facing into the centre of the bike box towards the foam padding or can be laid loose on top of the itermediate layer of foam.
If the wheels do not fit in the lid of the bike box, lay the rear wheel on the intermediate foam on the left hand side of the box, disc rotor facing down.
The front wheel can be placed on the right hand side, Disc rotor facing upwards.
You should perform a trial closure of the bike box, with the anti crush pole in position. Add extra packing or adjust wheel and Bike position, until a snug fit is accomplished.
Disc rotors are one of the most vulnerable parts on a bike, if they receive even the slightest knock whilst in transit, you risk having the most annoying scraping noise while you ride. We recommend a little extra padding out using your cycling kit, spare bubble wrap or you can purchase an extra layer of foam from our the accessories page.
