Tessa Kortekaas
Tessa grew up near the west coast of The Netherlands. Her grandfather was well known the world of ice speed-skating. She began swimming as a child but at the age of 11, she discovered that she enjoyed road biking. Two years on, she won the National Youth Championship.
When Tessa was around the age of 18 she became very ill with a virus in her blood which made her tired throughout the day and caused her problems training and enjoying her cycling.
However, in 2016, she joined a Triathlon Club and entered the Dutch Championship Triathlon 1/2 distance (1.9km swimming, 90km cycling and 21km run) and finished 4th within her age group. Not too long after this, she decided it was time to become an Ironman, with the goal in mind that she would qualify for the World Championship in Hawaii.
In 2017, Tessa set her goals on Ironman Lanzarote but didn’t make the finish line due to dehydration. However, lessons learned and she soon went on for Ironman Maastricht, The Netherlands. Tessas hard work paid off when she was winner in her age group and qualified for WC Ironman Hawaii.
